Volunteering at SEAS

What is SEAS?

SEAS supports disabled people from North Wales to get active and have adventures on the Menai Strait in a safe and social environment. An important part of our outlook is to recognise the importance of family and carers in disabled people's lives and SEAS is committed to providing shared experiences.

We do this by raising money and by working with our partner organisation Conway Centres; Anglesey (part of Edsential CiC) who help us to deliver our sailability events.

A barbeque forms the social hub for our regular evening sessions where activities usually include sailing (in keelboats and dinghies), powerboating, canoeing and kayaking as well as paddleboarding.

Making new friends and having fun is central to everything we do.

We provide training opportunities for all our volunteers, many of whom are family/carers, so that they can be actively involved in delivering and leading the events.

What sort of volunteers do we need and what commitment do we ask?

There's opportunity for everyone to volunteer with us. We have ‘dry’ and ‘wet’ volunteers - the former help with on shore organisation, the bbq and helping participants get ready for activity whilst the latter tend to have some experience/qualification to help us lead safe, fun activity. We'll help train you for roles if you don't already have the skills.

We’re happy to see volunteers once or twice a season or every week, whatever time allows and only ask for specific commitment where we have contributed to costs of qualifications.

Why volunteer?

Apart from the bbq?!  We’re a friendly bunch of outdoor enthusiasts who get pleasure in enabling others to take part in activities that we enjoy. We understand the benefits of spending quality time in the outdoors and it is a gift to be able to facilitate that for others.

The charity provides training for volunteers including some National Governing Body Awards which have included first aid, PB2, Powerboat Instructor, and Paddlesport Core Coach. We are lucky enough to have amongst our volunteers a number of coaches authorised to deliver instructor training. In the next months for example, we’re running a powerboat and sailing training for volunteers.

Oh and did we mention the bbq?
